A grand jury in Mahoning County, Ohio has indicted a 32-year-old Youngstown man on multiple charges, including felonious assault, kidnapping, and aggravated vehicular assault. The indictment stems from an incident that occurred on January 5, 2023, in which the defendant is accused of dragging a woman with his car for several blocks.
The Incident
According to police reports, the victim, a 45-year-old woman, was walking in the 300 block of West Chalmers Avenue at approximately 7:30 p.m. when the suspect, identified as Eric Dijon Humphrey, approached her in a black Chrysler 300. Humphrey allegedly asked the woman for directions, but she refused.
Witnesses reported seeing Humphrey exit his vehicle and grab the woman, forcing her into the backseat. The woman resisted, and Humphrey allegedly punched her in the face and head. He then sped off with the victim still trapped in the car.
Witnesses followed Humphrey's vehicle as it traveled through several streets, with the victim's body hanging out the window. The pursuit culminated in a crash near the intersection of South Avenue and East Wood Street.
