On Saturday, February 11th, 2023, at approximately 10:30 PM, the Richmond Police Department responded to a concerning report of a hit-and-run collision that occurred on Snead Road in the city of Richmond.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two adult victims who had sustained injuries as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle. The victims, identified as 45-year-old John Smith and 41-year-old Mary Jones, were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Richmond Police Department, the incident occurred as the victims were crossing Snead Road at an unmarked crosswalk. A vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan, approached the crosswalk and failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrians. The vehicle subsequently struck both victims and fled the scene without stopping to render aid or provide any information.

Witness accounts and surveillance footage obtained from nearby businesses have provided investigators with valuable leads in identifying the suspect vehicle. The Richmond Police Department has released a description of the vehicle and is actively searching for the driver responsible for this reckless and cowardly act.

The condition of the victims remains a top priority for the Richmond Police Department. John Smith is currently listed in critical condition with severe head trauma and multiple fractures. Mary Jones, while conscious and responsive, has sustained broken bones and internal injuries. The families of both victims are by their sides, offering support and praying for their recovery.

The Richmond Police Department is urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying the suspect vehicle or the driver involved in this hit-and-run incident. Witnesses who may have seen the collision or have any knowledge of the suspect's whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Richmond Police Department's Traffic Division at (804) 646-5102.

In addition to the criminal investigation, the Richmond Police Department is also conducting a thorough traffic safety assessment of Snead Road. The department is reviewing traffic patterns, visibility, and other factors that may have contributed to this tragic incident. The goal is to identify and implement measures to enhance pedestrian safety along this busy thoroughfare.

The Richmond Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and is committed to holding the responsible driver accountable for their actions. Hit-and-run incidents are unacceptable and endanger the lives of innocent individuals. The department will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and that the community is safe.
